It is my opinion the world will be a better place if you stop torrenting ROMS. Please stop stealing money from people who make video games. Nope, this blog post is not about zombies coming back to life after they are dead. Nor does it have anything to do with some kind of "evil" that can come through your television screen. This post is all about the evils of using BitTorrent filesharing services for pirating video games, movies, and TV shows you don't own... ...No. The core of my message is this: stop pirating video games......The reason I think it's important to focus on video games in a blog about file-sharing for movies and music is simple: video games are a massive, massive industry that brings in a lot of money. In fact, they're bigger than movies and music put together. This is why I find it staggering that people would OK with stealing from the video game industry when they wouldn't steal from the movie or music industries. What's worse is that there are people who illegally download video games, then spend money on the exact same titles at retail!...It's not just me saying this either. A lot of games industry people have said that the prevalence of piracy is hurting the market. I'll give you my favorite example... ...Here's an article by Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek, makers of Crysis. Here's what he has to say about the impact of BitTorrent on his business: "We have to stop treating PC as a 'pirate platform.' It is not fair at all when you are trying to create value on top of everything else. It is killing PC in general." ...He's not alone either. Check out this quote from David Perry, executive producer of The Sims franchise: "I've seen the real damage [piracy] has done to the value of our products and to our revenue stream. We came very close to having to lay people off and close down a development studio and we've turned it all around in a very short period of time." ...The games industry is legally entitled to protect their properties by copyright and trademark law. But what's worse is that there are people who think BitTorrent downloading is OK because they are not hurting anything...... That's just not fair. ...Please - stop stealing from the video game industry....Your computer will thank you. "Why should BitTorrent be illegal?" The reasoning behind this article is simple: there are plenty of legal ways to obtain digital content--some of which even make sense. If BitTorrent is legal, why should it still be considered a form of piracy? ...The closest I've come to trying to understand the concept of BitTorrent is that it consists of chunks of data being sent across the internet by thousands of people at once, who are randomly sharing files between themselves, all over the world. cfa1e77820
